With the everchanging work environment, we are seeing more remote work opportunities. However, is saving yourself time from commuting actually creating better balance in your life? It depends!
We have put together some helpful tips to support you maintaining balance while working from home:
· Create a “go to
work” routine. Consider going to the gym or leaving the house to get a coffee before you return to your office to start the workday.
· Set boundaries and stay firm with them. Establish your daily work hours.
· Schedule your work tasks for the whole workday by allotting time for each task which can help you establish realistic expectations for productivity for the day.
· When taking a break, make sure you eat properly, exercise your body or relax your brain.
· Refrain from constantly checking emails or answering the phone while working on a task. Schedule times each day to tend to emails and return phone calls. Turn off the ringers/prompts.
· Complete your work tasks when scheduled versus pushing it to another day as new tasks come in which may cause you to feel behind, creating undo stress.
· Keep a consistent work schedule to maintain a distinction between your professional and personal lives.
· It is important to view your home office as a place of work and do not respond to daily interruptions from family/friends.
· Don’t complete household chores or attend to personal business during your business hours.
· Establish a designated workspace.
